Phone Consultations
Occasionally, Modern Health providers will provide the option to connect for a 5-15-minute non-clinical, introductory call to gauge whether there is a good fit between the member and the provider. This is a helpful time to ask general questions before meeting with your provider (such as what to expect when beginning care). Please note that this service is a courtesy and is not offered in all cases; however, we always recommend that you reach out to your provider when matched to see if this is something they offer.
Initial Session
Therapy providers generally start each session with an introduction and review of expectations and confidentiality to make sure you are comfortable with them and their process. In some cases, your provider may initially require you to fill out initial intake forms so that you can get into the therapeutic work more quickly. Typically, they will also ask you a series of questions, if needed, to get a better understanding of your concerns, background, and goals to best identify how you can work together to achieve those goals.
After this initial assessment and appointment, your provider will work collaboratively with you to formulate a treatment plan and review different therapeutic methods to help you address your specific and/or clinical needs (for example, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Dialectical Behavior Therapy).
At the end of your first session, many therapists will summarize the session and suggest actions you can do afterward to continue your learning and growth.
Intake Paperwork
Intake paperwork is standard practice and is best completed before your first session in order for the provider to get a better sense of what you're looking to get out of your sessions. With that said, when you are engaging in sessions covered by your employer, you are not required to fill out payment information. Moreover, you do not need to share information that you don't wish to disclose (except for consenting to treatment, which is legally required in many places).
Duration of Sessions
Typically, therapy provider visits will be 45-60 minutes in length and can occur either in person or via video. The frequency of sessions varies by individual needs and will be recommended by your provider. For example, some people meet weekly while others meet monthly or as needed.
In-Person Expectations
Connecting to a provider who offers in-person sessions is something our members sometimes request as one way to feel comfortable in the therapeutic process. While Modern Health's network consists mostly of providers offering sessions via telehealth at this time, we can try our best to accommodate in-person requests based on your location.
Modern Health believes in connecting members to providers who can best serve their individual care needs. Our team is able to utilize our diverse provider network to reach out to providers who have indicated they offer in-person sessions, but please note that matching based on geographic location can result in a match that may not necessarily be the best fit. Research (and our own member feedback) indicates that telehealth is just as effective and remains a great option because each provider brings the same training, expertise, and judgment to both in-person and telehealth care.
Our team will do our best to accommodate your request, however, Modern Health cannot guarantee an in-person provider match. In addition, our app doesn't currently have a filter for in-person care; if you are looking to request a therapist that can meet in person, please reach out to help@joinmodernhealth.com. Our Care Team will typically respond within 2 business days to work with you in fulfilling your request.
