Overview
Session AI is Modern Health’s feature that securely summarizes therapy sessions to improve care and help providers focus on you instead of note taking. You’ll always be notified and can choose to allow or disable recording before or during your session, and all data is securely stored in accordance with HIPAA standards.
Understanding Session AI
What is Session AI?
Modern Health’s Session AI leverages AI to summarize sessions and improve care. This feature will provide session summaries to your provider to help them write their session notes. That way, they can focus more on your care.
How to Opt Into Session AI
All recording will be defaulted to off and you can select your preference before joining your session. When joining your Zoom meeting, you will be prompted by a screen to select either “Allow recording” or “Do not record.”
Recording and Summaries
Will my sessions be recorded?
Sessions will only be recorded if you click on "Allow recording" before joining your session. If you don't see this screen when joining your session, it means the session is not eligible to be recorded.
What exactly gets recorded?
Only audio is temporarily recorded to create a written summary. Video and audio recordings are never stored in Modern Health's systems and are automatically deleted after the session.
What's the difference between summaries and closed captions?
- Recording for Session AI summaries: Text generated from audio and securely stored by Modern Health to support your care.
- Closed captions (Zoom CC): Live subtitles for accessibility, only visible during the session and never stored.
How will I know if my session is being recorded?
You'll hear an announcement, see a pop-up window, and see a red "Recording" icon at the top right corner of your Zoom window if recording is active.
When the recording feature is active during a session:
- All participants will hear an audible message: “This meeting is being recorded.”
- Non-host participants will see a pop-up notification informing them that recording is in progress.
- A red “Recording” indicator will remain visible in the top right corner of the Zoom window for the duration of the recording.
- These notifications are built into Zoom to ensure all participants are aware that the session is being recorded.
Privacy and Security
How does Modern Health protect my privacy?
- All data is stored in a HIPAA-compliant environment, following strict privacy and security standards.
- Information is only used to improve our delivery of healthcare — never for unrelated purposes.
Is Session AI HIPAA-compliant?
Yes. All data collected and stored by Session AI follows HIPAA requirements, the same federal standards that protect your health information across all of Modern Health's services.
Note: If you prefer not to have your session recorded or summarized, please know that you have full control. You may choose not to record at the start of your session, or you can tell your provider to stop recording at any time while in your session.
