Does Modern Health prescribe controlled substances?
Modern Health does evaluate and offer consultation, diagnostic clarification, and treatment recommendations. However, for conditions like ADHD or Substance Use Disorder, Modern Health does not prescribe controlled substances. Referrals can be made outside of Modern Health if controlled substances are an appropriate treatment recommendation.
Due to DEA regulatory requirements related to in-person evaluation, Modern Health providers do not prescribe medications federally designated as controlled substances. Examples of medications that cannot be prescribed via the Modern Health platform include but are not limited to: stimulants (such as amphetamine or methylphenidate) for ADHD, anxiolytic medications (such as the benzodiazepines lorazepam, clonazepam, etc.) for anxiety, sedative medications (such as zolpidem) for insomnia, weight loss medications (such as phentermine), prescription pain relievers (such as codeine or hydrocodone), or other high-risk medications that require a DEA license for dispensing.
If our psychiatry services may not meet your needs or preferences at this time, we recommend you reach out to your primary care physician through your health plan. While your primary care physician may not be able to help with all mental health conditions, this is a great place to begin conversations about your needs and to find referrals to other psychiatric providers, if warranted.
