Overview
Our goal at Modern Health is to connect members with the care they need, when they need it. Navigating high-acuity care and finding the right treatment can be daunting. Recognizing the critical importance of accessible and effective mental health care, we have partnered with Charlie Health and Equip who bring a proven track record of evidence-based outcomes for intensive outpatient programs (IOP) and eating disorder treatment, respectively.
Charlie Health
Amidst a national youth mental health crisis, the availability of options between hospitalization and once-a-week therapy sessions remains limited. Virtual intensive outpatient programs, like Charlie Health, strive to bridge this gap. Charlie Health serves ages 11 - 34 and is available in over half of the U.S treating diagnoses like mood, personality, and anxiety disorders. Charlie Health offers a comprehensive suite of services including individual and family therapy, along with about nine hours of weekly group sessions. Individuals are carefully matched to curated therapy groups based on factors such as condition, age, modality, and lived experiences (e.g. LGBTQIA+, neurodivergent, military, etc).
Equip
Eating disorders carry the second highest mortality rate among mental illnesses, with diagnoses among teens doubling in recent years (source). Equip addresses this alarming trend with its virtual, evidence-based treatment program, delivered at home. Equip serves ages 6 and up and is available nationwide treating diagnoses like Anorexia, Bulimia, and other Specified Feeding or Eating Disorders .Patients receive support from a multidisciplinary team, including therapists, dietitians, and medical providers. By incorporating leading treatment modalities, Equip ensures that treatment seamlessly integrates into patients' lives.
How can a member access our Care Partners?
Members can access our Care Partners through our dedicated clinical self-referral forms (Charlie Health or Equip), through Benefits Navigation (in Modern Health’s platform), their Modern Health provider, or Specialized Care Coordinator*. *Not applicable for all members
Will the member’s employer know if a member requests to access our Care Partners?
No. Per Modern Health’s Privacy Notice, we will not share any personal information with employers, unless necessary to prevent imminent harm or required by law.
What does the intake & treatment process look like with Charlie Health?
After a referral, Modern Health does not have visibility into or oversight of Charlie Health’s treatment. Charlie Health reports that a member can get started with virtual IOP treatment in as little as 24-48 hours. The average program length is 9-12 weeks. The exact duration will depend on the assessment done by Charlie Health’s clinical team. All Charlie Health FAQs can be accessed here.
Modern Health does not guarantee placement in a program. Charlie Health and Equip are third party clinical partners of Modern Health. The information collected by a third party clinical partner will be subject to that partner’s Privacy Policy and HIPAA Notice of Privacy Practices. Any clinical services subsequently provided by a third party clinical partner will be governed by that partner’s Terms of Service.
What does the intake & treatment process look like with Equip?
After a referral, Modern Health does not have visibility into or oversight of Equip's treatment. Equip indicates that it takes an average of 2-3 weeks for members to finish the admissions process. The duration of treatment differs for each patient; the typical duration of Equip treatment spans 40 weeks (nine months). While this might seem long, the treatment duration is carefully tailored to reduce the likelihood of relapse, a frequent occurrence with these conditions. All Equip FAQs can be accessed here.

Will Charlie Health and Equip be available outside of the US?
No, these partners are currently only available in the US. Equip is available for Modern Health members ages 6+ in all 50 US states. Charlie Health is available for Modern Health members ages 11-34 who reside in one of 33 US states: Alaska, Arizona, California, Colorado, Delaware, Florida, Georgia, Idaho, Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Maryland, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Nebraska, Nevada, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, North Carolina, North Dakota, Ohio, Oregon, Pennsylvania, South Carolina, Tennessee, Texas, Utah, Washington, Wisconsin, Wyoming.
Will a member be charged for these services?
A member will submit their insurance information for Charlie Health or Equip to review and verify. Charlie Health and Equip will review coverage and any potential out-of-pocket costs directly with the Member. The member may be responsible for payment subject to the terms of that member’s individual insurance policy (e.g. they may owe a copay or coinsurance amount).
